New York Times Op-Doc – The Fight Over Medical Marijuana

This is an older video from late last year (2012) highlighting the fight that Chris Williams, a medical marijuana grower in Montana, has been battling. At the time this documentary was made, Chris Williams was facing life in prison. As of today, he has been sentenced to 5 years in prison. Part of the atrocity of this case is that a federal judge barred Williams from using his medical marijuana defense.

Maryland Making Moves to Decriminalize Marijuana Possession

Marylanders caught with marijuana may soon face a small fine instead of time behind bars.

The Maryland Senate voted in favor of a bill to decriminalize small amounts of marijuana on Tuesday.

On a bipartisan vote of 30-16, the Senate approved legislation that makes possession of up to 10 grams of marijuana a civil offense, subject to the maximum penalty of a $100 fine, according to the Capital Gazette. Laws currently on the books for a such a possession invokes a maximum penalty of $500 and 90 days in prison.

If the bill becomes law, Maryland would join a growing number of states that are enacting more lax marijuana laws, including Colorado and Washington state, where voters chose to legalize marijuana on ballot referendums in 2012.

The sponsor of the bill, State Sen. Robert A. Zirkin (D-Baltimore County), said that the law was needed in order to avoid overspending on charging individuals with possession of small amounts of marijuana.

“It is a tremendous waste of resources,” Zirkin said, according to the Baltimore Sun.

According to State Sen. Allan Kittleman (R-Howard and Carroll), a co-sponsor of the bill, police made around “47,000 arrests” related to marijuana possession in the state last year.

Marijuana has quite a history, watch it on this History Channel documentary

Here is “The History of Marijuana” – a documentary as seen on the History Channel.  I am not sure if I’ve posted this already, but this is a fantastic documentary that I’ve watched a few times now – something great to show anyone you know who may not have all of the right information regarding marijuana!

This doc is about an hour and a half long and here on YouTube in its entirety.  I like this one as it features celebrities chiming in, giving a better look into how most people really use marijuana.

Also, for other documentaries and great videos on cannabis and the history of marijuana, feel free to browse through my page as I have tons of videos!

Cannabis – What’s the Harm?

I’m not sure if I’ve posted this before, but here is a great BBC segment titled “Cannabis – What’s the Harm?”  From the video description: “In the first of two programmes, James looks at the effects of the drug on the streets of Britain, meeting a 17-year-old who smokes weed with his parents and a mum-of-three who uses cannabis to keep her emotions in check. He meets people who are growing cannabis illegally for themselves and goes out on patrol with a police drug squad as they clamp down on large-scale cannabis growers. He also travels to California, the first state in America to license cannabis for medicinal use.”

A little cannabis each day keeps a stroke away!

Check out this news clip from earlier this year. A former heart surgeon speaks on the benefits of cannabis to prevent strokes.

Though the description of the original video mentions “eating a bud a day”, we all know eating straight cannabis is pretty gross, and if anything, you’d have to at least bake it into something 🙂

The Point discusses all things cannabis :)

Check out this great episode of TYT’s “The Point” —

From the video description:  “What is behind the war on cannabis (both medicinal and recreational) and will marijuana ever be legalized? What are the effects of smoking weed? Where does President Obama stand? John Fugelsang (Political Comedian) leads this week’s panel on ‘The Point’ to discuss these issues and more with Cornell Reid (Comedian), Dave Brian (Editor – The 420 Times), and Sam Humeid (Owner – Perennial Holistic Wellness Center). Special thanks to Steve Elliott (Author – “The Little Black Book of Marijuana”), and Dr. Igor Grant (Professor of Psychiatry – UC San Diego) for sending in points.

Thanks to townsquare for posting the video.

A NORML LIFE – Full length documentary about medical cannabis

Check out this FULL LENGTH documentary, A NORML LIFE (2011) – all about the state of medical marijuana in the US today.

From the description: “A NORML LIFE documentary on the current state of medical marijuana in America. Personal stories from patients, doctors and caregivers verify its medical effectiveness while leading activist rally support to end prohibition.

Produced by
Chris Burry …. associate producer
Peter Darling …. associate producer
Rod Pitman …. executive producer
Doug Ross …. producer

A NORML Life, goes beyond the recitation of facts and figures to capture the beating heart of the legalization movement, in all its passion, its commitment and its excitement.

It’s an extraordinary job by Pitman, producer Doug Ross and a rich cast of cannabis characters including Seattle Hempfest founder Vivian McPeak (who, near the beginning of the show, rightly says America’s marijuana laws are “fixing a problem that never existed,”), and it wastes no time in going for the emotional resonance which is the reason many of us are involved in this movement.

The documentary, which compellingly tells the proud story of advocates fighting for the legalization of marijuana, was released by Cinema Libre Studios on DVD last week. The film presents a strong case that the use of medical marijuana is effective, and that it is a safe alternative to pharmaceutical medicines.

Disclaimer: This documentary and information is for entertainment only. Marijuana laws vary from State to State and Country to Country. In many growing and possessing marijuana is illegal. By no means is this an endorsement to break or violate any laws.”

Will Obama follow Paul Ryan on his stance on medical marijuana?

Recently, Republican Vice Presidential candidate, Paul Ryan spoke out that he personally believes that the legalization of medical marijuana should be handled by the states.  Will President Obama follow suit and support his original pre-elected stance to leave medical marijuana legalization to the states?  Coming into office, Obama made many promises to leave the state programs alone, but as we all know, his administration went ahead attacking California and Colorado dispensaries, as well as others.  This created very little safe access to cannabis for patients.  We all hope Obama makes good on his original promise!

Linda reviews the Silver Surfer Vaporizer (SSV)

I’m back with one of the most popular and best performing vaporizers out there – the Silver Surfer Vaporizer!  I got mine a few weeks ago and wanted to give it a lot of solo practice before giving you all a review, as I’d previously only tried it a few times.  Although this is meant to be used to tobacco or other herbs, I think it is perfect for medical marijuana patients to use as a cannabis vaporizer.  Extremely customizable from the graphics to the hose to the baseplate and even the heat cover – it’s hard to not drool over this thing.  With great warrantees, extremely durable aluminum housing and a quick-heat ceramic heating element, this vaporizer is definitely among the top vapes out there.  Check out more information at http://www.silversurfervap.com

And as always, don’t forget to check out my website for all of my video reviews, medical marijuana news, live chat and more!

What if President Obama had called a real marijuana user?

That’s a good question. I’m sure you’ve all seen the Obama/Harold & Kumar ad floating around. Here is a great answer to that ridiculous ad – what if Obama called an actual marijuana user and not fictional movie characters? This is how one person imagines that conversation would go.

From the video description: (Thanks goes to sidepocketimages for posting the vid!)

If you want the President to earn your vote, tweet this:
@barackobama @kalpenn @johnthecho It takes more than lame jokes to earn votes. It takes action. Change the marijuana laws. #EarnMyVote

On September 3, in what President Obama’s press secretary described as an attempt to appeal to “the youth vote”, the Obama campaign released an ad featuring fictional potheads Harold and Kumar. The President asks them for their support and they agree, mindlessly gobbling junk food and chuckling at cartoons. But the Obama administration has waged a war on marijuana users at a faster pace than President Bush, even attacking state-legal medical marijuana at nearly every turn.

This video shows how a call to a real-life marijuana user might have gone.

Featuring Andrew Livingston.

Not suitable for children. Includes graphic footage of Arizona and Missouri police raids for marijuana.
